As one of the oldest Korean electronics companies, Samsung began their operations in 1938 out of Seoul, South Korea, and now bring in annual revenues of more than $174 billion. They manufacture a variety of electronics products, including digital cameras, mobile phones, printers, computer parts, lithium batteries, VCRs, and televisions. They have made almost every electronic product available, in fact, and are in direct competition with other companies.
The Samsung UN55B8000 HDTV is a high-definition television available from Samsung, although their products have not gotten the recognition that some more high profile companies like Visio or Sony have. That doesn't mean they should be overlooked, though.
One of the best products they provide is the above, with a 55-inch slim LED screen with 1080 pixel technology. The screen is LED, unlike most televisions today LCD, but LED technology is increasingly becoming available, and Samsung has provided this to customers, as one of its top ranking companies for LED technology. With Auto Motion Plus 240 Hz picture technology, they also offer true-life picture brightness. Even better, their LED screen uses 40% less energy than do plasma or LCD TVs. Samsung UN55B8000 HDTV also offers an optical digital audio connection, one PC, one Ethernet, two USB, one component, and four HDMI connections.
Those are the advantages, and as with most things, there are also some disadvantages to the Samsung television. For one, LED technology is still fairly new, which means that it's going to be more expensive than a comparable flat screen television for high definition. Because it's also new, some bugs still have to be worked out, but that's going to be true with any LED television, no matter whom it's manufactured by. Finally, the sound on this TV certainly provides adequate sound, as they are typical television speakers, but it's not going to be surround sound. You can, of course, purchase a separate surround sound system to get the type of home theater you want if this is something you're looking for.
All of that said, though, this product certainly delivers, despite its disadvantages. The Samsung UN55B8000 HDTV value is good, and certainly provides a good picture. In fact, the resolution on the screen is so good that you can actually see blemishes and wrinkles on the actors - which may not necessarily be something you want. It's really almost like watching live theater.
To get the most out of your Samsung TV, you may want to invest in a surround sound system and receiver. There are limited outputs, but he should still be able to run a satellite, iPod, PS3, and other game consoles through the TV. Feel free to go through the manual and play with settings to get comfortable with it.
And finally, as with anything, you are going to have to "tweak" a little bit, to get the best experience, sound, and images. The remote is easy to use, but look over the buttons to make sure you can use everything before you sit down and enjoy your new television.
